Skytrails

Terms of service

These terms govern your use of the Skytrails app. By creating an account you agree to them.

1. Who we are

Skytrails is operated by StagWorks, Benjamin Seeger und Maximilian Rosnauer GbR, Beinsteinerstraße 40, 71394 Kernen im Remstal, Germany (info@stagworks.de). Our full details are in the legal notice.

2. What Skytrails is — and is not

Skytrails is a personal flight diary and community app for private pilots. It records flights, maps places worth flying to, and connects pilots.

Skytrails is not an official logbook. It is not a pilot logbook within the meaning of any aviation regulation, is not approved or recognised by any aviation authority, and its entries have no legal or evidentiary value. Do not rely on it to prove flight experience, currency, or hours for licensing, rating, insurance, employment or any other official purpose.

Skytrails is not an aviation navigation or flight-planning tool. It is not certified for any aeronautical purpose. Airport data, coordinates, altitudes, distances, tracks, weather-adjacent information and spot details are provided for personal record-keeping and social use only, may be inaccurate or out of date, and must never be used for navigation, flight planning, or any decision made in flight.

You remain solely responsible as pilot in command for the safe and lawful conduct of every flight, for compliance with all applicable aviation regulations, and for using official, current aeronautical information and approved equipment. Never operate the app in a way that distracts you from flying the aircraft.

Entries can be incomplete or wrong. Tracks (from GPS, imported files, ADS-B or photos), times, distances, airports, night and twilight hours and every total are calculated by the app and can differ from official figures and from the definitions in aviation regulations. Totals count only flights where you were at the controls; flights as a passenger are kept apart. Labels such as "instruction" or "commercial" are labels only: they do not make an entry a training record or a commercial record.

Sharing is not a safety service. Live sharing, the ADS-B stand-in, and messages such as "Wheels up" or "Landed" are conveniences for friends. They are not flight following, tracking, search and rescue or an emergency service, nobody is watching them, and nobody should rely on them. File flight plans and use official services as the rules require.

Licences and ratings. Anything you record under licences and ratings is your own note. It is not a check of your medical, ratings or currency, and you alone are responsible for them.

Your entries in Skytrails are a convenience, not a certified record. If your licensing authority, employer or insurer requires a logbook, it is your responsibility to keep an official one in the required form. Skytrails does not replace it, and we accept no responsibility if you rely on Skytrails instead.

3. Your account

You need an account to use Skytrails. You must:

You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.

4. Your content

You keep ownership of everything you put into Skytrails — flights, tracks, photos, posts, spot reviews.

By posting content to a group or the public feed, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce and display that content for the sole purpose of operating the app and showing it to the audience you chose. This licence ends when you delete the content, except for copies already made by other users and backups awaiting deletion.

You warrant that you hold the necessary rights to everything you post, and that it infringes nobody else's rights.

5. Rules of conduct

You must not:

The details, including what happens after a report, are in our community guidelines, which are part of these terms. You must be at least 16 years old to post, comment, join groups or add friends.

6. Position sharing

Sharing your live position is entirely optional and off by default. If you turn it on, other pilots can see where you are, in the ways described in the privacy policy — including, when you fly as crew, your name and role being visible to any signed-in user who can see that aircraft. Consider this before enabling it, and switch it off whenever you prefer not to be visible.

7. Leaderboard, badges and records

Leaderboard totals are self-reported by each pilot's device and are not verified by us. Treat rankings as a bit of fun between pilots, not as a record of fact. We may remove entries that are evidently falsified.

Badges, rankings, records, the Collection and statistics only record what you have already flown. They are never a reason to fly. Do not plan, extend, change or fly a flight to earn a badge, a record, a place in a ranking or a landmark, and never go lower, closer to terrain, obstacles or people, into weather, over water, at night or beyond your licence, your aircraft or your own limits for that purpose. Weather, the rules, your aircraft and your own limits decide every flight. A badge never does. Do not alter or invent entries to earn one.

8. Availability

We work to keep Skytrails available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features, including for maintenance. Skytrails depends on third-party services and on your device's GPS and network; interruptions in those are outside our control.

Recording depends on your device: battery saving, revoked permissions, an operating system killing the app, or poor GPS reception can interrupt or lose a recording. Do not rely on Skytrails as your only record of a flight.

9. Costs

Skytrails is currently provided free of charge. Your own network and data charges are your responsibility. If we introduce paid features, we will say so clearly in advance and never convert an existing free feature into a paid one without notice.

10. Termination

You may stop using Skytrails at any time and delete your account from the profile screen, which deletes your data as described in the privacy policy.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms, or if required by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put things right.

For breaches of the rules of conduct we act in proportion to how serious they are: a warning, hiding or removing the content, a 7-day posting suspension, or permanent closure of the account. We tell you what we did and why, and you can appeal to info@stagworks.de; a person reviews every appeal.

11. Liability

We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act.

For slight negligence, we are liable only where we breach an obligation essential to the purpose of this contract (a "cardinal obligation"), and then only for foreseeable damage typical of this kind of contract.

Any further liability is excluded. In particular, and to the extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for damage arising from reliance on data in the app for navigation or flight planning, from a lost, incomplete or inaccurate recording, from any decision to fly, or to fly in a particular way, in order to earn a badge, record or rank, or from content posted by other users.

Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.

12. Third-party content

Content posted by other users is theirs, not ours. We do not review it before publication and do not adopt it as our own.

You can report any content or pilot in the app through its "…" menu, and block pilots you don't want to hear from. Reports can also be sent to info@stagworks.de, which is our contact point for users and authorities (Art. 11 and 12 EU Digital Services Act). How we handle reports, including removal of non-consensual intimate images within 48 hours and copyright notices, is described in the community guidelines.

13. Changes to these terms

We may amend these terms where there is a valid reason — a change in the law, in case law, or in the app itself. If a change is material, the app asks you to review and accept the new version. If you do not accept, you may stop using Skytrails and delete your account.

14. Governing law

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.

15. Severability

If any provision of these terms is or becomes invalid, the remaining provisions stay in force.
